There seems to be a few issues with this lpe.

There is an option to display the nodes rotated but they are not representing the smooth/cusp nodes differently. May be a feature.
The handle's inner ends inside the nodes have a circular marker which is not part of how handles are rendered without the lpe, bit confusing as well.

Bigger issue is, the scale factor assigned to the stroke width as well as the scale setting.

Set the show handles lpe on a stroked path with no fill,
increase the stroke width in the fill and stroke tab,
move one of the nodes -everything scales up to fit with the new stroke width.

The goal of the LPE is not mimic the Inkscape UI, but show a structure of a vector path.

For this question you can add any color/width with the stroke dialog to fit the result to the style you want, for videos, presentations, manuals, printings... See animation in release notes. So Bigger issue is not a issue but a feature.

The inner ends also are to render a better look of vector structure. I put a option to hide it soon.

Also in the future I add the nodes fit the type of node and remove the rotate nodes option.
