Subscript font size reverts when italicized

Bug Description
When a subscript is in normal font and then the entire string is converted to italicized font, the subscripted character increases in size to the same size as the normal characters. The subscripted character maintains its displaced location, but one must delete it anyway and then rewrite and resubscribe(correct verb?) the character. Would be better if it just maintained the subscript size after the italicization.
