Inkscape crashes when deleting the last symbol from curved text

I created a text box, then a curved line (quarter of a circle in fact). Then I selected both, chose Text->Put on path and the text got curved. Selecting the text and modifying it with the text tool worked until I deleted the last symbol (letters only in my case) from the curved text. Then Inkscape crashed. I had the impression that there was an info box but Inkscape crashed too quickly so I couldn't read it.
Please note that Inkscape created a file like "filename.svg.2016_08_24_16_41_25.0.svg", i.e. appending the current date and time with another suffix ".svg" each time it crashed like this.
