Bug Description
Here's a issue that I think needs to be addressed. Gradient Filling seems to be problematic if one wants to use Rotate Copies and Mirror Symmetry LPEs rather than transformation.
Step 1 - Make a Circle with Gradient Fill
Step 2 - Apply Rotate Copies LPEs
Step 3 - Edit Nodes' position and make sure the circles are separate
Note the results would be different than if you were to do this with the transformation tool. This is something that's going to be need to be addressed some of those days.

Since LPEs produce a single path as output, it only can have a single gradient (i.e. it is not possible in SVG 1.1 for a single path to use several gradient paint servers, each transformed (moved and rotated) per sub-path or "fused" region of the generated LPE output path).
Proposing to close as 'Invalid' or 'Won't Fix'): AFAIU the requested feature cannot be done with path effects.
