When exporting by selection, the function exports everything that might overlap the image that is selected, not just the image.

Bug Description

I love the interpolate function, it's a huge timesaver. I interpolate between two images that I want to use as an animation and then ungroup the output so I can select and export each image as an individual frame of animation. However, if the number of steps I use for the interpolation is enough to make the output images overlap, then when I ungroup and export by selection, it still includes the overlapping images even though I only have one image selected. I would expect that only the image I have selected would be exported and not include the unselected images that may be overlapping.

I assume you use batch export ?

Would describe the bug as: "Batch export" does not honor "hide all except selected" at the individual export level ?

I did not use batch export. After I ungrouped the interpolation output, I clicked on each image individually and saved them with a different file name. I didn't know hide all except selected would accomplish what I was trying to do. I'll try it out and report back.

Hide all works properly for individually selected images that may have overlap. Batch export does not honor this, as you described above. Obviously now that I know how to use it, I will be using batch export going forward, so I guess this is a real bug after all. :) Also, how do you designate the folder for batch export output? I couldn't find a preference for this, but I'm pretty new to Inkscape, as you can tell.

It looks like a duplicate of Bug #1416816 '"Hide all except selected" option in export toghether with "Batch export selected objects" not very useful' <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1416816>.
Could you please confirm it's the same issue?

Yes, if I correctly understand what the user reporting bug 1416816 is saying it would address what I am reporting. Again, my use case is interpolating between the beginning and end points of a complete animation. The steps are usually high enough that they overlap. Because I select all of the steps in the file, selecting "Hide all except selected" does not do anything because everything is selected. I'm expecting that each selection will be saved individually without including any of the overlapping steps when it is not their turn to be exported. Hiding all except the current selection being exported should accomplish that, as described in the bug you linked, as long as it still imports all the steps that are selected.
