tweak tool works badly or causes app to freeze

Inkscape version 0.91
Computer is Mac and operating system is OS X El Capitan
The tweak Tool does not seem to work properly - sometimes works and sometimes does nothing.
Also freezes the app when I use some of the path editing modes

Could you please give some details on what you mean by "does not seem to work properly"? Do you have performances issue, or is it the tweak tool that doesn't behave as expected (e.g. a mode that doesn't change the object)?

It seems the "freeze-up" is actually the computer doing the work - I left computer for two hours and the circle was rough all the way around and the file could be saved etc.

However, the roughened circle had sprouted all sorts of tangential lines (about 10) going off across the screen that seemed to come from nodes. They were next to impossible to delete as the roughening creates so many nodes.
