copy text/paste text does not work

Trying to copy and paste text from other applications into Inkskape, and nothing seems to work (nothing is pasted). I've tried copying the text from WPS Writer, Google Docs and Windows Notepad, all with no result.
Using Windows 7 Professional; Inkscape version seems to be Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939

try the following method.
- in Notepad, or whatever, perform the copy of the text
- in Inkscape, click on the Text tool, F8
- on the Inkscape drawing, perform a left mouse button click, so that you get a blinking cursor
- now hit Ctrl-V for the paste

No reply yet whether the help provided in comment #2 resolved the issue (pasting text from clipboard directly (in the select tool context) to the canvas is not supported).

Not reproduced on Windows XP, Inkscape 0.48.5, 0.91 and trunk rev. 14495. Copying from other applications such as Notepad, Libreoffice writer or Google Doc works as expected.
