minimizing docked windows sometimes doesn't work

Bug Description

Sometimes, a panel/windows appears twice in the "docking area". See attached screenshots. One is expanded and another instance, usually at the bottom, is not. Trying to minimize the expanded dialog results in a rendering error (window seems to get slightly smaller but it's not hidden completely as shown in the 2nd screen shot).

Running Inkscape 0.91 on MacOS 10.9.5

Note: The dialog is not opened twice (at least not on the screenshots): the item at the bottom is a notebook tab displayed as (clickable) button (you can switch between different "stacked" dialogs by clicking on the dialog's button).

Sometimes it's required to click twice (IIRC this is related to how (currently not visible) dialogs in the notebook resize to minimal required height, I vaguely recall noticing this most often when switching to/from Fill&Stroke).

Thanks, seems like I didn't understand the difference between the notebook buttons and the vertical buttons. I thought all minimized dialogs end up to the right as vertical buttons. So the bug would be that clicking the triangle icon didn't minimize the Symbols dialog. I don't know if it did by clicking once more. I think I closed it completely (X button) to get rid of it.

Could you please rewrite the bug summary line into what you think you want to report here? The current summary line is misleading (your misunderstanding of the GUI elements of the dock (meaning and usage of switcher buttons, dockerbar buttons) is definitely not the same as the problem tracked in bug #1499980 and bug #1481719, where dialogs are indeed opened twice in the dock in the same document window).

sure! changed summary to reflect the issue of not being able to minimize a docked panel.

summary: - docked panels/dialogs appearing twice

Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.91 r13725 on OS X 10.7.5 based on the available information - the button with the triangular icon in the dockable dialog's own toolbar reliably does minimize a dialog into the dockerbar (the dock's own vertical toolbar to the right), and with stacked dialogs, it does minimize all of the dialogs within the particular notebook of dialogs. Clicking on an individual button of a minimized dialog does restore (de-minimize) it in the dock as expected.
