Bug Description
Inkscape shows a pretty small window on launch. The window is so small that you can not begin to draw. You have to resize the window first. But then the worksheet remains small, so you need to zoom in as a second step, before you can start your work.
I suggest that Inkscape starts with a reasonable window size (maybe half of the screen or full screen, depending on screen size) and that it remembers the windows size from the last execution. The worksheet should be displayed as large as possible. Inkscape would be much more welcoming with these changes.
I use Inkskape 0.48.4 on Ubuntu 14.04 (but it is the same on Windows).

The current stable release Inkscape 0.91 opens new documents maximized (with default preferences); the default size is configurable in the preferences: small | large | maximized .
