Crashing when opening more than one image

Inkscape has crashed occasionally before, but not to this extent. I am running Windows 8 and Inkscape 0.91. Today it has continually happened.
I can open one svg file, but when I open another image to have hopen at the same time, Inkscape crashes. It keeps happening.

Which installer package did you use for Inkscape 0.91: 32bit or 64bit?

And to clarify the report - with 'image' you refer to importing a bitmap image, not opening regular Inkscape SVG files without any linked or embedded bitmap images? Could you attach sample files, or provide more details about what you steps you are performing?

Likely - if the 64bit installer was used - the same underlying issue (triggered by mixing certain file types of bitmap images in the same session - as already tracked in

I used the 64 bit installer. I have been using it for a while now and overall, haven't had many issues with it.

In this instance, I had open a svg file and tried to open a gif file. Both could be open alone, but together the program crashed opening the 2nd file.

It appears that the gif is have the same result as the bmp bug reports.

It got round this by opening the gif and then exporting it as a png. I was then able to open the svg and the png files at the same time - no crash.

Based on the additional details and symptoms, this is indeed about the same underlying issue triggered by using combinations of different bitmap image file formats within the same Inkscape session (or document) as tracked in bug #1467103 (also confirmed by other duplicate reports of the same bug which mention file formats other than BMP).

Sorry for the inconveniences this may cause to users - I'm glad to read that you figured out a workaround for your specific use case though.
