inkscape does not read the equations of this pdf file correctly

Steps to reproduce the problem:
- open the attached pdf file in inkscape, page 9
- observe the equations in the bottom-left section of the page
=> the equations are corrupted
I am using inkscape 0.48 on debian 8
I am not sure whether this is due to missing fonts on my system. I do have the Microsoft fonts installed.
