bitmap trace window doesn't appear

Bug Description

With the new XQuartz, Inkscape is the only window I can work in. When I click outside of the window Inkscape minimizes. When trying to trace a bitmap, the window opens but doesn't show in the front of the screen and I can't access it due to minimizing when I click out of the window.

=====
I am running XQuartz 2.7.7 on Yosemite for Mac.

Which version of XQuartz do you have installed? AFAICT there has been no
recent new release of XQuartz, and the latest stable version is still
2.7.7 (released on 2014-08-18).

Do you happen to use a dual screen setup?

If you say "minimize" - does this mean the Inkscape window minimizes
into the Dock icon as soon as it looses focus?

I do not recall having encountered such a window behavior with Inkscape
0.91 / XQuartz 2.7.7 on OS X 10.7.5 (single monitor setup), and
currently don't really have an idea which setting (outside of Inkscape)
could affect window handling in the described way.

Could you attach the Inkscape preferences file to the bug report please?

To locate Inkscape's preferences file on OS X:
1) in the Finder, open menu 'Go > Go to Folder'
2) paste this path into the dialog (without the quotes):
~/.config/inkscape
3) the Finder will open the otherwise hidden folder, and you can access
the config file 'preferences.xml'

This report sounds like another various of the known upstream conflict of XQuartz with the Mission control settings for spaces:
* Bug #1244397 “XQuartz on OS X 10.9 and later: limited support for multi-monitor setups”
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/1244397

Please test the workaround recommended by the main XQuartz developer:
<quote>
  2) Turn off "Displays have separate spaces" in Mission Control if you need to use X11 across multiple displays
</quote>

Proposing to link as duplicate to bug #1244397.
