Bug Description
Using Mint 17.1 / XFCE
I have a 1.7Mb svg, originally created in Adobe Illustrator. It has been updated in inkscape 0.48, but to access some new features of 0.91, I added the PPA and installed.
When I save the file out, it takes over 10 minutes.
I have deleted all of the content (as a test), and the file takes equally as long.
The original file provided from Illustrator saves without issue although it is 2.4Mb, so something has most likely been introduced whilst I have been working in 0.91 that causes this.
I have opened the XML Editor and found the following node ID: adobe_illustrat
eJzkveuuXceRJvg
kRlBWmfLPwo9Jmx
xx8+fgDoF3/
wO+fPr/
/+O7b1+
7at3H//
When I delete this node, the file reduces to 720Kb, and saves in an instant; there seems to be no loss of data / content.
The impact is that when it starts to save the file, it truncates the previous one, so a ctrl-S (which I do without thinking, to preserve my data) effectively means I have to wait till it has finished, or ironically, loose my changes.
I propose that the following could be considered bugs:
1) Inkscape did not alert me that there was this redundant content, and offer a solution
2) Handling this size of data takes an inordinate time
3) Inkscape should have a "Saving file..." dialogue
Fortunately, the XML editor allowed me to address the issue with my document, however as Inkscape 0.91 is such an excellent product, it is likely that more people will be using it and importing Illustrator files, and may have this same issue, then conclude that Inkscape is unusable.
@Stuart - Thanks for your report and your suggestions.
Would you be willing to attach and example SVG file that causes problems (don't hesitate to compress if the file is too big) so that we can investigate?
