Inkscape fails to load PDF URL

Replicate

1. Start Inkscape
2. File >> Open
3. Set Location to: http://www.worldlabel.com/Templates/WL-244.pdf
4. Click Open

Expected Results

Inkscape is able to open the file.

Actual Results

Failed to load the requested file http://www.worldlabel.com/Templates/WL-244.pdf

Does it only affect PDF files, or other file formats as well?

Apparently, it also affects bitmap images.

Workaround

1. wget http://www.worldlabel.com/Templates/WL-244.pdf
2. inkscape WL-244.pdf

Loads the file locally.
