Bug Description

Whenever I go to change the Printer dialog box to change to Colour print (rather than my default of B&W), Inkscape 0.91 crashes completely and closes.

Seems to work fine if printing in B&W.

Please add information about OS/platform and Inkscape version (see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape') to the bug description. If on Windows, please also share which installer was used (32bit|64bit, exe|msi|paf.exe|7z).

Could you share details about the two printers too?

Version: Inkscape 0.91 r13725
Installer: inkscape-0.91-x64.msi
Printer (Default): Dell 1250c Color Printer
2nd Printer: HP Photosmart D5100 series

The crash happens if you change the settings on the Dell 1250 to colour. When you click ...

PRINT... (brings up printer dialog box)... then PREFERENCES.. Then changing any option and OK.. crashes out.

Not reproduced on Windows XP (32bits), Inkscape trunk rev. 13937. Tested with OKI C830 and 5900 printers.

@Steve - could you try running Inkscape from a DOS prompt to see if you get any error messages on the crash?

Running from DOS gives the same problem.
Running from either dos or windows DOES however allow me to change preferences on a different printer I have (HP D5100).

The Dell 1250C works perfectly with everything else, it only appears to be inkscape that crashes when trying to use it.
If I just leave the settings on whatever they are on already, it prints fine from inkscape.

I have the same problem on Windows 7 Professional 64bit with Inkscape 0.92.0, .msi installer.

We're using a PDF-XChange 4.0 printer driver and when I change a preset and click ok Inkscape silently disappears / crashes. No error messages on the dos prompt.

It's unfortunate that you're experiencing issues with Inkscape 0.91 when trying to change the print settings to color. This could be due to various reasons, and I'll provide you with some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue:

Update Inkscape: The first step is to ensure you are using the latest version of Inkscape. Version 0.91 is quite old, and there might have been bug fixes and improvements in newer versions that could address the issue. You can download the latest version from the Inkscape website.

Check Printer Drivers: Outdated or corrupt printer drivers can sometimes cause software crashes. Make sure you have the latest drivers for your printer installed. Visit the printer manufacturer's website to download the most up-to-date drivers.

Inkscape Preferences: Reset Inkscape preferences to default settings. Sometimes, custom settings can cause issues. To do this, open Inkscape, go to Edit > Preferences, and click on "Reset to Default" or "Reset All" in the Preferences window.

Print from Other Applications: Try printing in color from other applications to confirm that the issue is specific to Inkscape. This will help determine whether the problem is with Inkscape or your printer setup.

File Format: Ensure that you are working with a file format that supports color printing. For instance, if you are working with a grayscale image, you may not be able to print it in color.

Check for Incompatible Extensions: Inkscape allows you to use extensions, but some of them may not be compatible with your version. Disable any extensions that might be causing conflicts and see if this resolves the issue.

Check System Resources: Inkscape, especially when working with complex vector graphics, can be resource-intensive. Ensure your computer has enough RAM and processing power to handle color printing, as it might require more resources than grayscale printing.

Bug Reports: Inkscape has an active community, and you can check the Inkscape bug tracker or user forums to see if others have reported similar issues. If so, it might be a known bug, and a solution or workaround could be available.

Consider Upgrading: If you continue to have issues with Inkscape 0.91, you might want to consider upgrading to a newer version of Inkscape. Newer versions often come with more stability and additional features.

If none of these steps solve your issue, you might want to provide more details about the problem, including your operating system, the printer model, and any error messages you receive when Inkscape crashes. This information can be helpful in diagnosing and solving the problem. by https://royalprinceautocare.com/
