that I don't have any experience with, but may work.

I wrote a tool with the same name, svg2latex, and maintained it for a few years:

However, I haven't touched it for ~5 years, and I think it's currently broken (it has a very brittle design). If you have success with johnbartholomew's code, please write back so I can update my tool page to point to that.
