Unionizing paths distorts original paths

Bug Description

I'm creating a path that is the union of several simple shapes. Attached file has just 2 rectangles and 1 circular arc segment. When these paths are unionized, the arc becomes distorted. I have encountered this problem in the latest stable release (0.91) as well as the previous stable release.

Reproduced on OS X 10.7.5 with Inkscape 0.47, 0.48.5, 0.91 and 0.91+devel r13892.

(0.47 and 0.48 produce slightly different distortions - the top of the arc is widened, whereas with 0.91 and trunk it is thinned)

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → Medium
status: New → Confirmed
