If I create two objects, select them and then use "Extensions-> Generate from path-> Pattern along Path" and hit apply then
inkscape crashes every time with:

AFAICT the console messages indicate a misconfigured gnome-vfs on the local system, see e.g.
- Bug #958545 “OSX : Crash using extensions”
- Bug #829940 “Inkscape will not open SVG files”
