Page area is not print area

I have noticed (at least on Windows7 with a HP LJ pro 200 MFP) that the area of the Inkscape A4 page is not what the printer prints. (Word prints exactly what the page says it will print).
My Inkscape svg is shifted up about 3mm and to the left about 3mm. The edge of the svg page coincides with the printed area (the printer has a 3mm border on the right and bottom a 4 mm bordet on the top and a 5.5mm border on the left where it does not print).
The resultant cutoff on the top is about 8mm of the svg.
Of course I would like the Inkscape GUI to indicate to me where I can print.
