Bug Description

Follow up report (regression) to bug #1293827

Steps to reproduce:

1. open attached file
2. select the visible group (g4427)
3. copy it to clipboard

-> crash

or

2. open document properties
3. click 'Resize page to drawing or selection'

-> crash

If there were unsaved changes, no emergency save file is made, resulting in data loss.

Based on reversing the changes in that revision, the regression was introduced in lp:inkscape r13520 with the fix for bug #1293827.

Reproduced with rev >= 13520 on OS X 10.7.5 as described.

Steps to reproduce from scratch:
1) draw a path
2) clone it (Alt+D)
3) open 'Path Effects' and click on '+'
4) copy to clipboard (or resize page to drawing)

-> crash

Changed in inkscape:
importance: Undecided → High
milestone: none → 0.91
status: New → Triaged

Hmmm, this probably indicates some design problem. I can not look into it for now. Best "solution" for now is imho to revert 13520, and fix the real issue later on when 0.91 is out. (the little memory leak won't hurt that many people ...)

I'm not sure if I should file a new report, but I've found out that the experimental branch suffers a possibly related bug. The steps to reproduce it are very similar to those from Liam's original report:

1. Open Liam's test file
2. select the visible group (g4427)
3. copy it to clipboard
4. paste from the clipboard

-> Inkscape crashes

OR

2. open document properties
3. click 'Resize page to drawing or selection'

-> The inner, light yellow shape disappears

In the second sequence Inkscape doesn't crash, but saving the result as SVG and opening the file with a text editor shows that the linkedpath attribute in the first inkscape:path-effect node has binary garbage instead of a valid id.

I've tried applying the r13551 patch from the trunk to the experimental branch code and it seems to solve both issues, so I think this might be the same bug, but somehow it behaves slightly differently.

Tested with Windows 7, Inkscape experimental branch revision 13564, GTK2 x86 build.

For what it's worth, my previous comment is now outdated, as of revision 13596 this bug no longer affects the experimental branch either.

Changed in inkscape:
status: Fix Committed → Fix Released
