Bug Description
This is about Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939 running on Ubuntu 14.04 (the most recent available version).
If I load a background graphic image (to create an overlay map), then try to add overlay text labels, everything is normal while entering text until I press the backspace key a few times -- then the GUI freezes and the program has to be killed. BTW this doesn't happen in the current Windows version, which I'm also testing in the same way (The Windows version is Inkscape 0.48.5 r10040). It also doesn't happen unless there's a background graphic present.
I ran a stack trace --
$ strace inkscape | tee stacktrace.txt
-- which looked like it was collecting a lot of useful data, but the fact that the app froze and had to be killed prevented the trace from being captured in the file I directed it to. Even though the tail end of the trace isn't very informative, I copied the contents of the terminal window and put it here:
Because of the nature of the freeze, which makes the app completely unresponsive, I can't capture a normal stack trace. Sorry.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Run Inkscape 0.48.4 on Ubuntu or another current Linux version.
2. Load a background graphic (File ... Open), then select the background graphic window that will appear and discard the original document.
3. Select text entry.
4. Type some words.
5. Start hitting the backspace key, erasing your text entry.
6. Item (5) should freeze the app.
