Bug Description

Preconditions:
1. Windows 7 32-bit
2. Inkscape 0.48.5
3. Laptop-PC with 4GB RAM

Steps:
1) Open the attached file in Inkscape
2) Press ctrl button on a keyboard and spin a wheel on a mouse to zoom in

Actual result:
After a few seconds a popup appears with title "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library" (see attachment). After pressing "OK" another popup appears (with no title and text "Inkscape encountered an internal error and will close now." - see attachment). After pressing "Close" Inkscape is terminated.

Expected result:

The bug occurs also after i change zoom (e.g. from 5% to 20%) by typing a value in the bottom right corner in GUI.

No crash with 0.48.5 on OS X, but memory usage exploded, and paging brought whole system close to a stand-still after zooming in/out quickly with 'Ctrl' + scrollwheel (scroll on trackpad).

Probably worse with trunk (see bug #1292459) - untested atm.

Wrong (the file uses vector patterns only) - crash or hang (excessive memory usage) not reproduced with current trunk r13520 on OS X 10.7.5 when zooming in/out quickly with 'Ctrl+scroll'.

Whether zooming in slowly or quickly, memory usage remains relatively stable and there is no sign of any crash. Cannot reproduce on Inkscape 0.92.3 on Windows 10 64-bit, closing.
