Bug Description

I recently downloaded Inkscape (latest stable release, 48.5) onto my system (Win 7 SP1 64-bit, 8 gigs of RAM), and when trying to do simple edits on ~800kB .svg files (filling in spaces with solid colors) at 1-2000% zoom, the program produces an error message stating that "The application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way," and closes upon pressing "Ok." When run from command line, upon that same crash it throws the error message "WARNING **: Could not allocate 167988 bytes for pixel buffer! terminate called after throwing an instance of 'std::bad_alloc' what(): std::bad_alloc" I have much more memory than that available, at least twice that much. It proceeds to tell give information about an emergency backup being made.

EDIT: added that I'm running 64-bit windows, and Inkscape 0.48.5.

Whoops, been out of town last week and a half.

svg file was a map of Europe from wikimedia commons, attached.

I have version 48.5, according to the about screen. I just downloaded the latest stable version, there was no indication of 32/64 bit. I'm running on 64-bit Windows, would that cause this issue?

Did you use the paint bucket tool or changed fill or stroke colors of existing paths via 'Fill&Stroke' dialog? Any further details would be appreciated.

If the paint bucket tool was used, then this could be a similar issue as tracked in bug #968667.

(AFAICT there's no real need to use the bucket fill tool in this document - at 2000%, and only with strokes removed from all paths and document background color changed to a vivid solid color (e.g. red or fuchsia, there's a single noticeable small gap of the size of about 1.2 x 1.5px. One would have to zoom in to the max (25600%) to be able to fill it with adequate precision using the bucket fill tool).

Bucket fill. I haven't done anything else with inkscape.

It specifically occurs at higher zoom levels. I can fill in over a dozen shapes at 50-100% zoom (on the file attatched) with no issues, but at 1500% zoom it crashes after about 8 fills.

@Galen Fastie - A new Inkscape version (0.91) is available (https://inkscape.org/en/download/). Would you be willing to try it and report back if the bug is fixed or not?
Thanks!

I could try, but I'm on a new system, and starting up my old one is something I'd like to avoid. I can certainly report if I experience the but on my new system, but at least until I next need to get my old computer out I won't be able to test it.

Closing due to lack of further feedback - status unknown with current stable release.

Feel free to reopen if the same issue persists with Inkscape 0.91.
