Change marker color

Bug Description

There is no way to change the color of a line marker. It does not get the line or fill color, so it always stays black.

I know there is a shortcoming in the SVG spec that doesn't allow a marker to inherit its parent line color, but this limitation is why Inkscape exists: Inkscape can work around such limitation, but currently doesn't.

It's just not very useful to only have black line markers... So, either a color picker is needed, or they need to inherit from the line color. Or both.

Inkscape ships with an extension which allows to change the color of the markers to match the color of the stroke, as described in the FAQ:
<http://inkscape.org/en/learn/faq/#How_do_I_change_the_color_of_markers_.28e.g._arrow_ends.29.3F>
… and in the manual:
<http://tavmjong.free.fr/INKSCAPE/MANUAL/html/Extensions-ModifyPath.html#Extensions-ColorMarkers>

The issue is already tracked in
- Bug #165865 “markers must take object's stroke color (SVG 1.2 feature) ”
  <https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/165865>

The next major release (0.91) will automatically adjust the colors of the markers to those of the object (with default settings).

It's not entirely duplicate, iyam.
The referenced issue is about lots of things at once, as far is I can see by skimming it over. This issue is simply a request to add a color picker for the markers, or to have them *automatically* inherit the line/fill color.

The extension that inkscape ships with (btw, would you still call that an extension?...) is only a temporary workaround. There's no real solution yet.

A) Yes, it's an extension... it is not core functionality and is implemented by a script. B) This is a duplicate, only adding a suggestion to add an unintuitive (in terms of what most users would expect) way to choose the marker color. C) There IS a real solution, it's just not in a stable release... yet. As ~suv already indicated the next major release will include the "real solution" as you put it.

Sorry to go on, but
A) "extension" here seems to be a tecnical term only. In UX-terms, an extension is always something after-market, i.e. it cannot be part of the main package or it would simply be a feature rather than an extension. The two of us must have been thinking about different ways to explain what "extension" means.
B) Unintuitive is extremely relative. Inkscape is not the most user-friendly program to edit vectors, let's face it. If you want to make Inkscape more intuitive, we can talk elsewhere in a different context if you're open to suggestions.
C) I must have missed that part. Sorry about that. I guess I'll expect in the/a next release.
