Clipped embedded image disappears when saving as Cairo PNG

I created a simple InkScape file in the following way:

* Copied an image from clipboard.
* Pasted into InkScape.
* Saved as SVG.

The SVG file looks fine - it contains the pasted image and has a size of 972 KB (apparently the size of the image).

Next, I did "Save a copy" and saved as PNG.

The PNG file looks blank, and has a size of only 2 KB.

OS: Ubuntu 12.04
Inkscape Version: 0.48.3.1 r9886

Please provide information about OS/platform and Inkscape version (see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape').

To allow further investigation, please also attach the two files you saved (SVG, PNG).

Note that the recommended export to PNG is via 'File > Export Bitmap'. The file format 'Cairo PNG' (via 'File > Save/Save as/Save a copy') only supports a limited set of features and was intended as test case for cairo-based exports mainly:

I already attached it and I can see it in the bottom-right pane under "Bug attachments".

Strangely, it doesn't appear in the left thread (is this a bug in LaunchPad?)

Reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.3.1 on OS X 10.7.5: the clipped bitmap image is not present in the file saved as 'Cairo PNG' (note that the original description of the report does not mention that the pasted bitmap image was further edited (clipped)).

After releasing the clip, saving a copy as 'Cairo PNG' works as expected (within the known limitations of the Cairo PNG file format).

Also reproduced with latest trunk (r13047) and latest stable cairo (1.12.16), on OS X 10.7.5 (the clipped bitmap image is missing in the Cairo PNG, saves as expected if unclipped).
