pencil - in free hand drawing draws only square lines

1- pencil free hand scribling - On windows 7 Professional it works perfectly but I want to use ubuntu 12.04. So I have updated with the latest updates via sudo apt-get update and used the included version. inkscape 0.48.3.1 r9886 there is no way to draw free hand lines. All the lines end up either straight or at 90 degree. No other ways . I try every adjustment.....
After I have also removed this version and downloaded via the PPA the 0.48.4.1 I believe and the same problem occurred. So I removed -- purge Inkscape 0.48.4.1 to go back to 0.48.3.1 r 9886.

2- text sizing ; adjusting the length or the Height separately - impossible if I resize L = 140.00 (in) Height will automatically adjust to a proportional height . NO way to cancel h adjustment. Strangely it works well in Windows 7 professional

Could you please attach the preferences file from your linux box which shows unexpected behavior?

(It is likely that on your Ubuntu system you had lowered the preferences settings for numeric precision to the minimium ('1') instead of the default value '8').

Forgot to add the details: on Linux, the location of Inkscape's preferences file is:

 ~/.config/inkscape/preferences.xml

Closing to to lack of feedback by the reporter.

Issue 1: Very likely due to reducing the numeric precision to 1 in the user's Inkscape preferences on the affected system.
Issue 2: It is not feasible to track multiple unrelated issues in a single report. The issue - if still present with latest stable Inkscape 0.9 - should be filed separately (unless already tracked in an earlier report).
