Can't create symbols of non groups

I wished to make a symbol of a line, but because the symbols adding process only allows groups, I had to group the line, then manually move all the meta data from the line to the new group.

The code should be more automatic. Doing what the user intends, rather than rejecting the user's notion because of a technical effect.

The code should:
 1) Group the object
 2) Move any title, desc, id meta data
 3) Push the new group through the usual process

Revision 13058 allows any set of objects to be turned into a symbol without grouping. It will not (yet) move the meta data to the symbol. Moving the meta data would only work if one object is selected.
