Snapping failure despite trying all kinds of settings.

I am unable to get a rectangle (or any other object) to snap to another rectangle, node, grid, edge or anything. I have tried altering all the snapping settings I can find, but to no avail. I am running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit and using Inkscape 0.48. I wish to use Inkscape instead of Illustrator, but the ability to precisely snap nodes to other nodes when re-positioning shapes is crucial.

Please provide more details about your installed version - see Inkscape menu 'Help > About Inkscape' for the exact number: If you are using the latest bug fix release 0.48.4, then your problem is likely due to a change in the default snapping behavior which had slipped into the stable branch unintentionally:

«When snapping nodes, it is no longer sufficient to enable only the button "snap nodes, paths, and handles". Please enable "snap cusp nodes" and/or "snap smooth nodes" too»

I have found the "snap to cusp nodes" and can now snap as required - thanks.

Thanks for reporting back - linking this report as duplicate to bug #1093739. Please add a comment here and revert the duplicate status if you don't agree and think these are different issues.
