Bug Description

Open the attached testcase. There's a small red circle and a green path. Using the node tool, try clicking on the segment inside the circle and dragging it around: nothing will happen. Also, try using the node tool and double clicking on the segment inside the circle to create a node: nothing will happen. The segment seems to avoid being edited.

Some additional odd behavior:
1. Select the green path.
2. Verify that the segment in the circle is bugged.
3. Move some of the nodes that are unrelated to the bugged segment, keeping the overall path selected.
4. Verify that the segment in the circle is still bugged.
5. Deselect the path and reselect it.
6. Verify that the segment in the circle is no longer bugged after reselection.

Based on the description, this is the same issue as already tracked in
Bug #290870 “ Regression: Curve dragging via Node Tool sometimes won't work .”
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/290870>

It's unclear to me though, why I can't reproduce it with the test case from this report (bug #1070674). Could you provide more details about your system (do you work with mouse or use a pen/tablet?), and possibly attach your current preferences file?

Oops - tests done on OS X 10.7.4 (32bit official package, and local 64bit builds, all X11-based), no tablet.

Attatched is a file where only a small part of a path segment is clickable.

I can reproduce it with Cojnel's testcase, on Windows 7, 0.48.4; behavior is as described in the svg. Red clicks don't select; green clicks do.

Additional behavior: after selection by clicking on the green, clicking on the red doesn't unselect, but clicking off the path unselects.

Not reproduced with Inkscape 0.48.4 r9939, r10009 and with trunk r12975, r12980 on OS X 10.7.5 (64bit).

I'm unable to replicate this issue in Inkscape 1.1-dev (c990a67, 2020-04-09), Windows 10. None of the attached files have unselectable segments. The fact that there are a lot of replications here (including in the duplicate issue), but this issue hasn't been opened at Gitlab yet, also indicates that it's probably fixed. Please reopen on http://inkscape.org/report if the problem occurs again.
