Inkscape 48.1, seems to be reproducable on LInux and windows.

Typing and modifying large chunks of text inside a text area can lead to annoying behavior. It seems that inkscape does not respond in real time with the displayed text when typing.

The worst case scenario is when erasing character. Holding backspace for 1 second can actually erase a whole line of text. Since inkscape takes so much time to delete the characters, if you made the error of holding the key instead of pushing it multiple times, you end up waiting to look at inkscape to erase everything you have written.

I don't know know if inkscape buffer too many characters. I thought that keyboard buffer was limited to 16 characters. But holding the key will erase much more than 16 characters.
