Bug Description

Inkscape 0.48.3.1 r9886 on Win7 x64 is crashing when I try to open a particular WMF file that was embedded in a Word document. I haven't been able to create a development environment for it to see if I could debug it.

I can open the file in LibreOffice Draw and it looks correct, but that screws up the formatting when it gets exported again, no matter what format it's exported in. (In different ways with different formats, oddly.)

crash not reproduced on Windows 7 (32 bit), Inkscape 0.48.3.1, resulting svg file is attached.

could you specify how you opened the file, there are two wmf methods, one called Windows Metafiles (Windows specific internal method) and one called Windows Metafile (Python Uniconvertor). I used the Windows specific internal method; the Uniconvertor method gave me no text at all.

what was the crash message?

unfortunately, I do get a crash on Inkscape rev 11604, Windows XP, crash message just says "Emergency save activated"
I was not able to obtain a meaningful backtrace

Doesn't crash when running inkscape in gdb. Very handy to debug...

Have you tried set disable-randomization off prior to running (which causes some heisenbugs to show up again) and/or compiling with -fbounds-checking and breaking on __bounds_breakpoint? I don't have a *nix system handy but I can spin up a VM if I can help, but I'm not even remotely familiar with the inkscape codebase....

Does not crash on XP with trunk and latest patch from bug #1263242. (Sorry don't have plain trunk set up to test right now.)
