Bug Description

I have a WACOM Graphire 4 and Inkscape 0.48.2. I recently upgraded from Windows XP to Windows 7, and after installing the WACOM drivers I'm experiencing problems in Inkscape and Inkscape only.

Here's the problem: when using the pen, the pointer seems to flicker erratically between the pointer's actual location and a location about 40 px to the right and 120 px below. attempting to select a point instead selects an area bounded by that same window. attempting to draw a line is also offset in a way that makes drawing very difficult.

I have contacted WACOM and they explain that the interactions between the OS, drivers, hardware, and application all play a part in the pen's function. As Inkscape is the only application affected or exhibiting this issue, they are led to conclude that the problem is in the inkscape code. Please contact me directly if more details are needed.

Very likely a duplicate of
Bug #845354 “Critical Wacom tablet glitches (0.48.2)”
<https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/845354>

The GTK+ stock used for the Windows build of Inkscape 0.48.2 has introduced regressions with tablets if pressure sensitivity is enabled.

Could you please test the Windows build for (up-coming bug-fix release) Inkscape 0.48.3.1, available here:
<http://sourceforge.net/projects/inkscape/files/inkscape/0.48.3.1/>
This newer version uses a more recent GTK+ stack and should no longer expose the known regressions Inkscape 0.48.2 for Windows had with tablets.

actually, this seems to be behaving more like https://bugs.launchpad.net/inkscape/+bug/797519 but I'll give the suggested build a try.

As commented in bug #845354, IMHO the two reports are very likely duplicates (caused by the same underlying issues introduced with the update of the Windows devlibs to GTK+ 2.22 in May 2011, and solved with the update to GTK+ 2.24.8 in Feb 2012).

ok, so after installing the .48.3 build, the stylus/pen seems to work just fine, but the mouse that came with the tablet is useless. The probelm the pen had, only worse and rotated 270 degrees.

So long as I remember to put down the mouse and use the pen only when using inkscape, I'm in good shape. I can live with that.

Issues with the new GTK+ stack (2.24.8) used with Inkscape 0.48.3.1 (and current development snapshot builds) ought to be filed separately.

Please add a comment here and revert the duplicate status if you don't agree and think these are different issues.
