gradient editor disappears offscreen

Version: 0.48.1

While working in inkscape, the gradient editor (that pops up when you hit 'edit' on a gradient) would no longer appear.

As evidenced by preferences.xml - it turns out the window was somehow set to a position way off-screen (this happened during my use of the program). Since it was saved to my preferences, it kept that window position between restarts, etc.

No program crash or otherwise unusual activity coincided with this.

I can reset it by editing the preferences.xml, and it was only a freak occurrence, but I thought I'd put it out there for anyone else experiencing this.

Did you switch between different (multi-)monitor setups and/or between different monitors (built-in/external) lately?

I'm just using one display. (20" @ 1680x1050 - normal landscape mode). Similar problem though, I'm sure the gradient editor was there, I just couldn't get to it.
It struck me as weird that both the x and y were filled with the max value for a 16 bit signed int... they're off-screen, but unnaturally so.

Still, I've been using inkscape for around 4 years and this is the first and only time it ever happened. :)

Which OS are you using? Can you test a more current release of Inkscape?

XP (SP3) 32 bit

I could test a newer version of inkscape, but I have no idea how to reproduce the problem.
It only happened once, and not before or since, not even on the same file I was working with when it happened.

You could test the latest bug-fix release 0.48.3.1 (not yet officially announced on inkscape.org because we are waiting for the packages for other supported platforms to be built and uploaded): the Windows package for 0.48.3.1 has been compiled with a quite current GTK2 stack (2.24.8) which has seen several upstream fixes for the win32 backend of GTK+.

Marked duplicate of bug #379463 "offscreen dialogs".
Note that the gradient UI will be modified in the next Inkscape major version (0.91) and won't rely on the gradient editor dialog anymore.
