Double click on indicator to toggle muteness

I find the current way to mute/unmute cognitively demanding (considering that changing the volume doesn't change mute state). I was wondering if double clicking on its indicator (and probably on any indicator which could be easily associated to a toggle behaviour) should toggle the mute status.

Actually it's hard to do that: an indicator doesn't receive any event signal from the widget...

Thanks for the suggestion. However, even if it was technically possible, I don't think it would be a good idea to diverge from the standard click behavior of menus in this case. For example, someone could click to open the battery menu, realize they've opened the sound menu by mistake, click again to close it, accidentally trigger the double-click behavior, and not understand what happened.
