Bug Description

After upgrading from 11.04 to 11.10 (final release), user name is shown as [Invalid UTF-8] in the indicator menu. Based on previous closed bugs from Beta, I am assuming it is still occurring in indicator-session, but do not know for certain. Here are some versions, happy to provide more if needed.

andrew@mesh-01:~$ lsb_release -rd
Description: Ubuntu 11.10
Release: 11.10

andrew@mesh-01:~$ apt-cache policy indicator-session

Further info (not sure how relevant, but might help):

The user I am logged in as has UID of 1001.
login.defs has UID_MIN 1000 and UID_MAX 60000

In 11.04, I had used gconf_editor to set apps/desktop/gnome/lockdown/disable_user_switching to TRUE. This key is now not writable in 11.10. Not sure of significance, but seems slightly odd so may be useful information.

Changed in indicator-session (Ubuntu Oneiric):
