Can you please provide more details of the version of indicator-sensors you are running, as well as on what Linux distribution / release, the desktop environment and fonts etc?

Hi Alex,
I installed it from the Ubuntu snap store.
Ubuntu 20.04 (fully updated)
Hardware sensors version 1.1, updated July 1, 2020. I can confirm though
that it's been doing this since April on this machine.

I have 2 laptops,
T420 hardware sensors works as expected
T440s has the strange boxes

The environments are typical Ubuntu tweaked gnome for 20.04
I installed Gnome tweaks and the fonts, icons, and appearances are setup

UPDATE as of experimenting while typing this email.
Last week I tried installing the beta, and edge versions from the ubuntu
store. Both gave the same results with boxes.
I removed Hardware sensors. Then installed the stable 1.1 version still had
boxes.
I removed it again using the ubuntu store gui. I also noticed that the
stable version now says July 1, 2020
I installed this time from the Command line. sudo apt install
indicator-sensors
Now it works
In the Ubuntu store it now says version 1.1-1, Updated never,
Ubuntu-focal-universe
Is this a different version than the snap store?

Yes the snap version will get more frequent updates - I am wondering in this case if there is some issue with the snap connection to the font / theme interfaces? If you install the snap version again, and still experience this issue, could you please post the output of:

snap connections indicator-sensors
