False warning at login

Hardware Sensors Indicator

Bug Description

Using 0.2, I get a notification that all sensors are at 0 on login.

I have a pure SSD system, so login is very, very quick for me - maybe something doesn't get initialized before the indicator checks...

The problem is that the udisks daemon takes about 1 minute until it checks the temperature of the disk - so when we first query udisks at login it returns 0 as it hasn't actually checked it yet - there is no way for indicator-sensors to tell though that this 0 is invalid since udisks doesn't return any error - so from the point of view of indicator-sensors it just looks like a really low reading... we may be able to try and work around it but I don't really like the idea of having to put some hack in which makes maintaining the code harder in the future.

It returns all sensors are 0, could this be considered invalid data when
all are at 0?

Every sensor is treated independently - each updates at its own interval (ie. we only update disks every minute to avoid spinning up the disk too often but we update CPU temperatures every 5 seconds or so) - so there is no easy way to do that... can you attach a screenshot showing the notification?

Alex Murray (alexmurray) wrote :

This should be fixed in git now - https://github.com/alexmurray/indicator-sensors/commit/7c3f89f4abd6d4b7fbc42c2b08616ea8c966e725

If you are comfortable compiling and testing from the git tree can you please let me know if this resolves the issue, otherwise the fix will be available in the next stable release.

Ah, ok. I've tried replicating this, didn't take a screenshot in time twice
- and then it wasn't doing it - though I was only logging in/out.

I'll wait for the next PPA update to check this out - thank you!

i just installed indicator-sensors via ppa and this is what i get at launch :

Alex Murray (alexmurray) wrote :

@himago - please read the other comments on this bug - ie. it is fixed upstream but has not yet been updated in the PPA. Unfortunately as I don't run Ubuntu anymore I am unlikely to update the PPA even if a new release is made.

I've just released version 0.3 and will upload it to the PPA soon as well so marking as fix released.
