Bug Description

Menu items representing applications should be rendered in a specific way, ie their icon should belong to the left gutter, where radio/check marks usually appear. Note: no such marks will never appear for such menu items.
Those items also feature a triangle indicator overlaid on the left border, when applications are running.

The sound menu should use the same rendering for the player items.

David, thanks for keeping the focus on this so we can get it done. We'll use this as a general pattern throughout Unity, hence the requirement to get it right in both of these category indicators.

The messaging menu icon size is wrong. It is affected by icons being SVGs that are not properly sized by the icon lookup & loading mechanism. The icons should be turned into PNGs to solve the issue. We can't fix the resizing issue in GTK at this point.

Re-opening for the messaging menu which is affected by icon sizes being wrong (see previous comment). Marking incomplete though, to indicate that the actual fix is blocked on the availbility of a set of PNGs image files. And putting it back on the 10.10 release radar.

While there is already and ayatana-design ask on this bug, it's important to note that there are two tasks. The first is to create the icons, the second is to create a visual design that matches the rest of the GUI (font size, spacing, etc.)

Is this attached rendering still up-to-date?

The sound menu seems to have been reverted to have the same spacing as the messaging menu: application icons are shown to the right of the radio item gutter, not on it. This is consistent with the mockups on the spec pages [1,2] and the general menu spec [3].

No, this is obsolete with the new design. Thanks Lars.
