Bug Description

Pidgin won't show up in the message box in ubuntu 12.10 so you have to tell it to use the system tray and then whitelist it which isn't user friendly? Why will it no longer work with the message menu?

Ubuntu 12.10 using Unity => system tray does not include custom user program entries. For example, the following programs which use sys tray cannot use it anymore:
- pidgin
- opera
- clipgrab

Can confirm with 12.10 and gnome classic using pidgin 2.10.6. I do have the system tray always show option in pidgin and that doesnt change anything.

workaround:

run dconf-editor (alt+f2 to open search in unity type dconf-editor and press enter)
open com -> canonical -> unity -> panel
    set systray-whitelist to "['all']"

in pidgin, tools menu, preferences, interface, set systray icon to always
