Bug Description

Binary package hint: indicator-datetime

Currently indicator-datetime calculates the width of every possible time in the current time format, and the menu title uses the maximum width of all of them, so that it won't change width. This is thoughtful and subtle work. However, it means most of the time when you look at the clock, there is more space around it than around any of the other menu titles.

If the menu title took up only as much time as it needs for the current time and date, it would change width up to four times a day in 12-hour mode (10:00 AM, 12:00 PM, 1:00 PM, 10:00 PM) or twice a day in 24-hour mode (0:00, 10:00). It would be slightly disconcerting at those times, but at *every* moment its spacing would be consistent with the other menu titles around it.

So, I would prefer for the clock to go for always-consistent spacing rather than never-changing width.

This seems sorted out in Precise, at least for me. Does it meet your standards yet? :)
