Bug Description

loaded ppa for Brightness indicator for Unity which put applet into panel.
Clicking on panel does not produce the expected "slider", just the message "No backlights were found on your system" which is an Intel Tom Cove LGA1156 H55 Motherboard and Core i3 with onboard graphics feeding a Samsung LR24WS Syncmaster 700.

Try to run this from a terminal:
pkexec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper --get-max-brightness
This should not return '0' as a result, but a number > 0.

If this command does return '0', your system is not supported, because it uses the gsd-backlight-helper to change display brightness.

Thank you Erwin.
The command:

pkexec /usr/lib/gnome-settings-daemon/gsd-backlight-helper --get-max-brightness

produces:

** (gsd-backlight-helper:7805): WARNING **: failed to find any devices

so I think I must accept that my system is not supported.

The same error message is seen on my somewhat elderly Samsung R55. Never mind it is a small price to pay for the new lease of life that Ubuntu has given it after replacing XP
