Bug Description
This bug is to track a generic issue where menu items are not always refreshed after the initial setup phase.
This appears more particularly with menu items displaying radio or check marks.
Example: gedit Documents menu contains a list of open documents. Open gedit (a default document is opened), close the document, open the Documents menu: the old document is still listed, even if it is not open anymore.
Confirmed as of appmenu-gtk 0.0.9 and indicator-appmenu 0.0.7

Gimp now doesn't show the menu unless I open an image (but the menu stays, if I close the image again).
