Bug Description

The fallback status icon shown for gnome-power-manger swaps between hidden and visible states on each battery status refresh - approximately every 30 seconds.

Using dbus-monitor, the following errors are relevant;

When the icon is removed:

signal sender=:1.3 -> dest=(null destination) serial=436 path=/org/ayatana/NotificationItem/gnome_power_manager/Menu; interface=org.ayatana.dbusmenu; member=LayoutUpdated
   uint32 196
   int32 0

And when the icon restores:

signal sender=:1.3 -> dest=(null destination) serial=434 path=/org/ayatana/NotificationItem/gnome_power_manager/Menu; interface=org.ayatana.dbusmenu; member=LayoutUpdated
   uint32 195
   int32 0

These repeat constantly, on a 30-second cycle. However, when the battery is low, this rate of change increases to around once every 10 seconds.

From the research I have done, this is due to indicator-application, associated with the version of gnome-power-manager that Ubuntu uses - that is, patched to ensure notifications are handled by application-indicator.

Rolling back to a Debian build of gnome-power-manager fixes the problem - isolating indicator-application as the cause.
