sound,wireless icons vanish,also total bar

Have reinstalled 10.04 twice due to vanishing icons and once the whole bar vanished . Will try once again to find a way to put the sound icon (this time) back on . Newcomer

No luck on the attempted re install of sound icon . Computer Temperature Monitor icon vanished today ---reloaded it and later the original temp. monitor re-appeared --had two .
I have had icons swap positions on start up a number of times , from one end of the bar to the other ?
Laptop temperatures have soared to 80C each time I have loaded this temp. monitor . When I went to preferences and set temperature limits ----low---40C and high 55C , everything worked well ---stayed in the mid 40C range . Should default be set so high ----if it has a chance of affecting things a default of 50C would be more in line ?----------a guess -----------Newcomer

i have same problem ... sound indicator vanished but i found how.. i deleted evolution mail notification but here it comes - evolution mail indicator and sound volume in fact is Indicator Applet and named something like system event applet.

Appreciate that tip -----------how timely -------------was just about
to get rid of that pesky evolution envelope again . Newcomer

I'm VERY new to Linux/Ubuntu and still working from Ubuntu 10.4 on USB stick. Not into the under the bonnet stuff - just want a leaner faster OS. Was trying to get rid of a weather indicator and now my network indicator has disappeared. Wifi itself still seems to be fine though. Any ideas how to get the indicator back?

Machine is Compaq 702EA netbook - seems ideal for Ubuntu if all the bits work

Had the same issue the other day it resolved itself when I rebooted .
Have to be careful removing items , I have found . I still find icons
shuffled from original positions on restart but have recently tried to
be more careful to go to the trouble to lock them in place . Changing
from laptop to 23" display most likely doesn't help things , in my
case . Sure pays to back up things on a portable hd in case you have
to reload during the learning process -----------------have had to do
it a few times . Firefox ---------Weave ---------has been a godsend to
save all my bookmarks during these reloads . good luck
