unhandled exception error 1.4.6.21

Using windows xp professional sp3 and version 1.4.6.21 icopy. My issue is the same as described in bug #401206. I have tried all of the patches with no success. Any suggestions?

Does version 1.48 fix the problem?

no, I used preview mode and tried both grayscale scan and black and white.
icopy doesn't act like it wants to communicate with my scanner at this
point. As soon as I hit the scan button I get the following error and the
program locks up. Have to close it using task manager:
