Bug Description

Shortly after "sudo apt-get install i8kutils" finishes the system hangs, tty's don't respond, after reboot same thing, even the log in screen dosen't show up, running Mint 17.1 on Dell Vostro 3450. Had to reboot to recovery mode to purge it to get the system working again. Would like to help you guys solve it, how can I be of help?

Binaries inside i8kutils package are not capable of hanging system (probably), then it may be i8k kernel module.

Fortunately i8k.ko is not inside package, it is delivered with linux kernel, then you can load it manually without installing i8kutils.

So, can you do "sudo modprobe i8k" on tty to check if module hanging?

It seems that i8kutils is not adequate for Dell Vostro 3450.

Sorry for I'm not able to help you!

Kernel module debugging is hard, and I could only try with a laptop on hands!
