Bug Description

03:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless 7265 [8086:095a] (rev 59)

Current linux-firmware version is 1.127.11 in trusty-updates, which doesn't work, but 1.143 with 3.19kernel in vivid works. Need to upgrade firmware version and firmware API in driver.

To be confirmed: if -8 version from Vivid works?

I'm really having trouble making sense of this bug.

In trusty only the trusty (3.13 based) and utopic (3.16 based) kernels are supported, and the max firmware API versions supported in these is -8 and -9, respectively. These firmware versions are fully up to date in 1.127.11; there are no differences in the -8 and -9 ucode files between that version and 1.143.

So you're going to need to spell out exactly what it is you've tested here to determine that updating the firmware in trusty will fix the problems you're seeing (it would also be nice to know exactly what the problems are that it fixes), because what you've said so far doesn't make sense.

@Seth,

This bug report is reported by a colleague in Taiwan, that project is running on the not-coming-yet 14.04.3 (3.19 kernel).

Sorry I didn't make myself clear and didn't do the binary diff yesterday.

Got it, thanks for the clarification. These files will get added to
trusty's linux-firmware soon in preparation for the lts-vivid kernel.

Why is there a utopic task for linux-firmware? 3.19 will never be available for utopic.

Actually I'm going to just go ahead and mark the utopic task invalid. If there is a good reason for updating the firmware in utopic please explain and reopen the task.

@Zima, please paste your lspci output and dmesg into a *new* bug, it must be another firmware issue(different revision sth.)

Zima - yes please create a new bug. It's best to do so by running 'ubuntu-bug linux' in a terminal, then lspci and dmesg and much more relevant information will be included automatically. Thanks!

Looks like this came back again in Ubuntu 17.10 Took me a while to find this bug report. The 8086:095a rev 59 is having this issue https://imgur.com/a/ITiYL

The laptop after this freezes when the error shows.

This hardware is not mine but a friend that recently migrated to Ubuntu and has a laptop that has this issue.
