Bug Description

This system has an HDMI jack and buttons that should switch the jack from output to input. According to the QA engineers, these keys are not enabled on Ubuntu, so the jack should just function as an HDMI output as expected.

With 12.04.2, this does not work, however.

On plugging an HDMI monitor into the jack, the monitor status light goes from orange (standby) to green (active), but then falls back to Orange. The display never wakes and on the AIO, you don't see the desktop flash or re-draw as it often does when adding an external display and the desktop has to stretch.

I tried several times and could not get the HDMI output to work on this system.

Jeff Lane, could you please provide the full computer model as noted on the sticker (ex. HP ENVY 23-1050t All-in-One CTO Desktop PC)?

Sam, could you provide the information required by Christopher on comment #3? We just need the full model number from the sticker, no need to power it up.

The system in question is 201206-11159.

Sorry,
this model name, HP Envy 23 AIO, is provided by HP, and it's the only model name we have here.

Also note that I have verified this with 12.04.5 and 14.04, non of them could make HDMI out work.

Are we sure the port is HDMI OUT or HDMI IN? Because from http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c04092080&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en it mentions only HDMI IN, not sure if it is the same model though.

Hello Anthony,
I found this documentation [1]
I tried to connect it to an external monitor, nothing detected.
I tried to connect a laptop to this AIO, on the laptop it could detect this AIO, but I can't switch to the laptop display on this AIO.
The buttons on the right hand side are not working at all.
Without a working OSD, I'm not 100% sure if this AIO could do HDMI out / in or not.

BTW, although the model name is Envy 23 AIO, but there is a "Omni 23" mark on the upper right corner.

Can you please boot with drm.debug=0xe added to the kernel command line, then attach /var/log/Xorg.0.log and the dmesg output when plugging it in and trying to use it to this bug? Apport didn't grab the logs unfortunately.
