search for files icon missing under place > search for files
there should be a icon there, there is space for it but no icon
there is a icon in application > accessories > search for files

If my memory is correct (and it might be wrong) there was/is a GNOME HIG icon rethink to generally try and reduce the number of menu icons, to only those that are familiar or required for clarity.
In which case, this might have been intentional.
