terminal window super hard to resize

If I need to resize it I usually do so at the bottom right of the window.

In Ubuntu 10.10 when I am using the terminal, I have to spend 10 seconds hovering over different pixels at the bottom right corner of the terminal window looking for the sweet spot (for the icon to change to the 'resize triangle').

you can press Alt+Middle button to resize as well. What do you propose instead?

I think the problem didn't bother me as much in 10.04 because the terminal had a rounded bottom which extended the target click area.

I propose an increased target area. For instance: [see attached] there is a bunch of dots arranged in a triangle to hint the user that it is resizable. If we could make the scrollbar end 10-20 pixels north of the bottom right of the window to allow room for a triangle dot icon, it would increase the target click area, and would help a lot for usability.

A lot of windows have a status bar at the bottom and the triangle area is actually a part of the status bar, like in gedit and firefox. I know gnome-terminal doesn't have a status bar, but it does help for resize usability in the other programs.

Glad I have a new shortcut in my arsenal, Alt+Middle button to resize windows. But, I have to confess that after a few days on Maverick, I find this losing the ability to (easily) resize the window by dragging the corner somewhat annoying. I feel that this is one of these 1000 papercuts type issues. Is there some new style guideline for having 1px border on the bottom of windows or something?

For one thing the grip area to resize shouldn’t depend on the thickness of the window borders. And everything wider than 1px looks ugly for the transparent terminal window.

There was a mention at UDS by the design team of 'fixing window resizing', although I don't know if what they're looking at would cover gnome-terminal. In any case, I've nominated this for 100 papercuts.

Btw, thanks for the Alt+Middle workaround. That will save me many frustrated minutes.
